About Your Host Sheena Carlson Hello
friends and visitors, below is a little about me and my history and how
I came to be in the Bed and Breakfast Industry. If you feel like getting
to know me a little before we meet in person, please read on.
“What ever possessed you to open a B&B” is a question that more than a few of our Guests have asked me over the past 11 years. “Just luck I guess” is my usual answer. Working in the Interior Decorating business in Vancouver for many years , I was at the home of one of my clients and noticed people milling about the house and not speaking English. Curiosity got the better of me and I asked some questions and noticed the brochures on the side table . I came home that night , mulled it over with my husband Don , and Voila ! A Cottage Garden B&B was born. Our home was in North Vancouver at the time and we enjoyed many years of showing our guests what the Big City has to offer. Winters were not so much fun even though we enjoyed skiing Cypress and Grouse mountains, the rain got the best of us. Victoria with it’s sunny and moderate climate year round beckoned us over to Vancouver Island … and we haven’t looked back. I was born in Ireland and the family moved to Montreal in the 50’s where I grew up in the vibrant cosmopolitan city . With the travel bug in my veins I toured and worked in Europe , USA and Belize really getting to know many cultures along the way. The latest ventures have been in Australia where we can only dream about retiring many years from now. Gardening is my labour of love and exercise , both of which I enjoy. Cycling and hiking Victoria's many Parks and trails breaks the monotony of all the Arts and Musical Entertainment that fills the city of Victoria throughout the year. Lets not forget about ‘taste testing’ , for our guests benefit of course, the generous supply of Restaurants in Victoria and the many gems located in the rural areas as well. Now that the renovations to our bed and breakfast are completed I hope to get back to my handcrafts and make gifts for family and friends. Beading is my latest compulsion with my boxes overflowing with multi coloured selections to choose from. Now when am I going to find the time to take lessons and learn how to play my Paraguayan Folk Harp ! There is never a dull moment.
